Challenging the crisis : NGO's and young people come together to promote SSE
International development and cooperation NGO's from several European countries launched a project called "Challenging the crisis – Promoting Global Justice and Citizens’ Engagement in a Time of Uncertainty" in order to propose another response to the consequences of the crisis. Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) is at the core of these actions.
Nearly coming to its end after 3 years of campaign, this project co-funded by the European Commission raises a lot of expectations toward its impact on European and national politics. Led by The Irish Development Education Association (IDEA), and five other partners : Fair Trade Hellas (Greece), CIPSI "Coordinamento di Iniziative Popolari di Solidarietà Internazionale" (Italy), Fondazione Culturale Responsabilità Etica (Italy), Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr (Portugal), SLOGA (Slovenia) and Fundación Economistas sin Fronteras (Spain), it has been driven by Young Global Advocates (YGAs), a network of young people across Europe advocating for a radical shift in the economy.
The "market economy" is targetted as the main reason of the crisis. Now is the time to "think social" for a better future with local and global justice for all, and a fairer and a more viable economy. We are very pleased to diffuse this initiative which came from organizations that are not usually specialized in the field of promoting SSE in Europe, but rather on development beyond European borders.

It will then be sent to European and national politicians to put SSE on the political and economic agenda, and in addition, the project leaders are calling for a dedicated European Year for Social and Solidarity Economy by 2018.
